Even more ††† remixes

††† were back to share a few more remixes on Monday afternoon. The Waxhole shared Eest Coast's remix of The epilogue, and Sh?m's reinterpretation of Bitches brew.

Yesterday, Antiquiet continued the sharing mood, with a version of Bitches brew by Sidewalks and Skeletons. This has replaced Computer Club and Dan Sena's version of The epilogue as my favourite ††† remix.

Check out parts one and two for all the previous remixes shared by †††.

More remixes from †††

Shortly after Thursday's post, the third ††† remix was shared through Death and Taxes This time around the track Ninteen ninety four was given the remix treatment by Dream Koala

On Friday a drum 'n bass remix of The epilogue by Computer Club and Dan Sena was premièred by Brooklyn Vegan. This might be my favourite ††† remix so far.

Lastly, a surprise third remix of Telepathy was shared via the ††† website. This track was reworked buy Metome. I like this track the least of the five remixes shared this past week, and probably wont be giving it too many more listens.

Once again, the three remixes are available as free downloads, and together with the two previous Telepathy remixes, make for a nice little remix EP.

††† "Telepathy" remixes

Last week ††† teased us with a picture of their Soundcloud page showing a playlist that read ††† - Remixes. This was followed with another picture pointing to the possible future release of the stems for the track The years (previously featured on the Batman: Arkham City - The Album), and the caption, "I† is happening again..."

After a few days of silence, a remix of Telepathy by Blaqk Audio premièred at Pure Volume. This was followed today by a second remix of Telepathy, this time by Dwntwn being released via Spin.

Both tracks can be downloaded for free, either by clicking on the links above, or heading to ††† Soundcloud page. According to both sites, we can look forward to more remixes tonight, and tomorrow, to be released through Death and Taxes and Brooklyn Vegan

Gary Clark Jr - Blak and Blu: The mixtape

It's been some time since I've posted anything music related, but here's a music post with an awesome Gary Clark Jr mixtape. Clark won the award for 'Best Traditional R&B Performance' at this year's Grammy Awards, and was also nominated for 'Best Rock Song.' Clark's music ranges from soulful R&B, to all out rock, and he puts on one hell of a performance. I was fortunate enough to see him perform live last year in Portugal, and it was one of the best shows I've seen.

This compilation, mixed by D-Nice, showcases Clark's repertoire of bluesy, R&B tracks. Some have been slightly reworked to add even more soul to them, and some have additional contributions by the likes of Big KRIT, Talib Kweli, Balil, and Alice Smith.

If you're already a fan of Gary Clark Jr, like R&B, or simply like good music, I really suggest heading over to Dat Piff to download the Blak and Blu: The mixtape for yourself.

The Jezabels - Psychotherapy (Aaron Harris Remix)

Here's a link to a neat remix of the The Jezabels track Psychotherepy by Aaron Harris of Palms. I'd never heard of The Jezabels before, but I'm glad I found this remix. The rest of the songs over on their Soundcloud aren't too bad either. Definitely worth a listen.

Vuvuvultures - Deaf epic (Creep remix)

Dazed Digital are streaming the new Vuvuvultures remix by the talented duo Creep. This version of Deaf epic removes the 'happier' sounding instrumental parts, replacing them with atmospheric synths and percussion, giving the song a more brooding undertone.

I'm really hoping to catch Vuvuvultures at one of their South African gigs in the coming months. I still need to give their album, Push/ Pull a proper listen on something other than my laptop too.

-- Updated 27 January 2014 --

Vuvuvultures have made the Deaf epic (Creep Remix) available as a free download for a limited time. All you have to do is follow this link, and fill in your e-mail.

Nine Inch Nails help launch Beats Music with 'Remix 2014 EP'

Following last years release of the Live 2013 EP, which was a Spotify exclusive, Trent Reznor released a follow-up EP , Remix 2014. The new EP was released to coincide with the launch of Reznor's foray into the on-demand music streaming service, Beats Music, which was launched yesterday.

Like the Live 2013 EP, Remix 2014 EP looks set to remain an online only release, which at present means that Remix 2014 EP is a United States exclusive.

I wonder if Hesitation Marks will get an expanded remix album/ EP companion album, or if the Remix 2014 EP is meant to to fill that space?

Dead Beats and Sol Invicto remixes

Before releasing the last track to Initium II, Sol Invicto treated us to a remix of Saul Williams' Break. The track originally appeared on Williams' album The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of Niggy Tardust, which was produced by Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails.

Speaking of which, local production duo Dead Beats released a remix of Nine Inch Nails track, The hand that feeds this weekend too. It's been a while since I've listened to the original With Teeth version, but hearing this reminded me of how much I liked that song when it was released in 2005. Dead Beats have taken all the elements I liked from the original, and breathed new life into it. This is well worth a listen if you're a fan of Nine Inch Nails, and like hearing other artists interpretations of relatively well-known tracks.

If you enjoyed the remix then check out Dead Beats other offerings. They also have three EPs that can be downloaded for free. Two of these were released under the duos previous name, Sparrow.

Bloc Party - Obscene (Kele Okereke remix)

Kele Okereke (Bloc Party) is poised to a release a compilation album that will feature a remixed version of Bloc Party's track Obscene. The remix departs from the familiar Bloc Party sound, Okereke makes the track work incredibly. The bouncy beat makes this an immediate club banger for the UK clubbing scene.

Okereke's Obscene remix will be available exclusively on the Bloc Party Tapes compilation, which will also feature tracks by artist who have influenced both the direction of Okereke, and Bloc Party's sonic exploration.

The list of contributors is quite extensive, and the number of musical genres their skills encompass is inspiring. this adds further insight into just how complicated the sound of Bloc Party has become as the band has assimilated all these sounds and ideas, and formed something new from it all.

While admittedly not for all Bloc Party fans, this is a great way to be get a feel for the type of music the band, and more particularly Kele Okereke, listen to for pleasure and when looking for inspiration. If this sounds appealing, then take a listen to this 20 minute preview, or go have a look at the full track list for Bloc Party Tapes.

Not your average compilation video

This is one of the most awe-inspiring YouTube videos I've seen in a long while. Also the soundtrack is pretty epic, and is available as a free download under the video.

Free download from Two Door Cinema Club

I was fortunate enough to see Two Door Cinema Club live a while back when they toured South Africa. While they have a more pop-orientated sound than a lot of the bands I listen too, I enjoy and respect them as exceptionally talented musicians. They put on an excellent live performance when I saw them, and I'd recommend seeing them if they're playing in your city.

Enough of that though, this evening the group released a free download of their single Handshake, remixed by Amtrac. Having not heard the original I don't have anything to compare it too, but I still think it's worth a listen, as it has all the hallmarks of a Two Door Cinema Club song.

In addition, if you like the sound of the remix, the check out some of Amtrac's original work over on his Soundcloud page.

Remix Bloc Party's 'Walk on music'

Bloc Party have made the stems available for their track, Walk on music, available for free download. Walk on music was written and recorded by Russell Lissack and Jamie Ellis (Battle), and has been played live at some of Bloc Party's recent shows. A link to download the stems can be found here, just a heads up, the file is 670 MB in size.

-- Updated 29 May 2013 --
I finally managed to download the stems, and was pleasantly surprised to find that it included a WAV file of the original track.

How to Destroy Angels' remix competition

How to Destroy Angels are running an official remix competition through Indaba Music. Stems of three tracks off Welcome Oblivion are available for download. The contest is open until 29 May 2013, and the  final winner will receive US$ 500. I'm downloading the stems, just because I have collected all the stems released by Trent Reznor so far, but it's unlikely I'll ever get round to producing anything from them.

Two new How to Destroy Angels remixes

How to Destroy Angels have released a third remix of their track Keep it together by Nosaj Thing, as well as a rework of The space inbetween  by Sonoio's Alessandro Cortini that has been retitled Between the spaces. Each of these remixes was premièred by a different music website, although both may be downloaded from the bands Soundcloud page (links below).

Minnaar - Volcano (Yesterday's Pupil remix)

A couple of months back, brother and sister duo Minnaar released their début EP Volcano as a free download. Minnaar have just 're-released' the Volcano EP, with an additional remix by Yesterday's Pupil

At the moment it seems that the remix is not available as a separate download, meaning that if you had previously downloaded the Volcano EP,  and just wanted to download the remix, you can't. You'll have to download the entire EP again just to get the Yesterday's Pupil remix.

Foolishly I've left my earphones at home, so I won't be able to listen to this in my office. Nor will I be able to download the new Ladyscraper album that I've been waiting to listen to all weekend.

Huoratron remixes Crystal Castles

Another free remix of Crystal Castles' Sad eyes, this time by Huoratron.

The clichéd adjective to describe this remix would be 'massive!' From the second the bass dropped in, all I could think of how epic this would sound at full volume on a massive set of speakers in a club. From the comments on Soundcloud and Facebook there are some mixed feelings from the fans over this track. Regardless of what others are saying, this is what I'm going to be playing before heading out on a session with mates.
