The Avengers vs More Avengers

Today's Madame & Eve cartoon by Stephen Francis and Rico is one of the best I've seen all year. Not only is it poking fun at South Africa's most prominent politicians, but it also makes light of frustration being caused due to the latest Marvel movie, Avengers: Age of Ultron is being filmed in down town Johannesburg. Several of the streets in the inner CBD have been closed off while Hulk runs amok, causing even worse traffic than normal in the area. Good thing I'm not planning on going near that part of town for quite some time still.

Coffee, axes and trousers

Here's an Idees vol Vrees comic from a month or so ago. It's in Afrikaans, and it's about coffee. I thought it was pretty funny when I first came across it, but now I feel it's more appropriate to share, mostly because of this. 

Direct translations for those of you who don't understand Afrikaans:

Blue Jacket: Ek drink koffie [I'm drinking coffee]

Grey Jacket: Ek kap 'n chino [I'm chopping a chino]

Admittedly, the direct translation probably still isn't funny, but 'kap 'n chino,' would sound very similar to cappuccino when spoken. If its' still not funny, then there's not much more I can do except apologise for sharing a comic which isn't funny if you don't understand Afrikaans.

Marvel Fact File magazine series

So while I wait for the release of the Lego Marvel Super Heroes, and the console version of Deadpool to land up in a few bargain bins, I've decided to start brushing up on my knowledge of the Marvel Universe. The new Marvel Fact Files magazines was launched a month back, and after perusing a few of the covers I've decided to start collecting the series.

These magazines are a great way to get the behind-the-scenes information on my favourite Marvel super heroes, without going back and reading forty years worth of comic books. Even though I'd really love to collect and read an entire Marvel comic book series from start to finish, I honestly just don't have the time, or money. In the mean time the fact files will have to suffice.

So far I've already learnt some cool bits of trivia; for instance, did you know that the Hulk was originally grey in colour? Okay, you could probably have found the same information by searching the internet, but the artwork included in the two issues of the Marvel Fact Files I've bought so far have been well worth it. I can't wait to get some facts (and full page illustrations) of the original Venom, Carnage, War Machine, and of course, Deadpool.

Batman: Arkham Origins - 10.25.2013

I'm not a big fan of DC Comics' list of super heroes, as I personally prefer Marvel's selection of anti-heroes. That said I have considered getting a Batman video game, more than any other licensed super hero game, simply due to the almost unanimous good reviews the Arkham series has received from reviewers. Batman: Arkham City has been on my radar in particular, as it is currently the third highest rated PS3 game released.

Now a full trailer for the Arkham series prequel, Batman: Arkham Origins, has been released, and it looks pretty good. Okay, so it's a cinematic trailer that doesn't feature any actual game play, but it still looks good. Besides it features Batman battling Deathstroke, who is essentially the character that inspired Marvel's character Deadpool, they even share the same surname.

Now the question is, do I wait for the release of Origins before playing Asylum and City, or do I just go ahead and play City?

I just came across this picture of a tattooed Princess Leia on a friend's Facebook page. After a quick Google search, and following four or five links, I eventually found the original source of the drawing over at Deviant Art.

In somewhat related news, Disney's Alan Horn has announced that there will be new Star Wars movies released in 2015, 2017, and 2019. Episodes VII-IX certainly can't be worse than the prequel trilogy, or can they?

Harlem Shake Update

I posted videos for three of my favourite Harlem Shakes on Day. Since then I have come across a few more, including a page dedicated to Capetonian Harlem Shakers, and what could possibly be the first Harlem Shake from Charles M. Schulz, the creator of Peanuts.

Deadpool Game

Announced at the 2012 San Diego Comic Con in July, the Deadpool game remained under my radar until last night. Centred on the wise cracking, "Merc with a Mouth" the game is set for release on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2013.

Since I own neither of those consoles, and it doesn't seem there will be a PC port of the game, perhaps it is finally time for me to replace my ageing PlayStation 2.

A PC version of Deadpool was released alongside the console versions of the game. I also subsequently upgraded to a PlayStation 3 in March when my girlfriend's DVD player packed up, and as a result I'm now more likely to get a copy of Deadpool for PS3, rather than for PC as originally intended. Despite wanting to own the game, I'm still a little reluctant to pay full-price for it, as it has received mostly mediocre reviews to date. I think I'll wait for it to go on sale.
